Visiting Mongolia

Hotels, visas, currency - there are a few things to consider when visiting Mongolia.

Passport & Visa Requirements

  • Please visit the Mongolian Immigration Agency website at for information regarding visa requirements.

  • Participants are kindly advised to contact the nearest Mongolian Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence to obtain any required visa as soon as possible. Make sure to check whether any transit visa is required.

  • Passports will need to be valid for at least 6 months beyond the anticipated travel dates.

Time, Weather and Healthcare

  • The time zone in Ulaanbaatar is UTC +08:00. Mongolia does not utilize Daylight Saving Time.

  • The workshop will be held during the autumn season (October) when the average low temperature is at -4.8°C and the average high is at 7.6°C. However, varying weather conditions have emerged in recent years. Thus, it is advised to bring warm attire.

  • Please be reminded that adequate health insurance is the participant's personal responsibility.

  • The international dialing code for Mongolia is +976.

  • Local service providers operate on the GSM standard. 3G and 4G networks are also available via roaming.

Power Supply

  • 220-volt, 50 Hz power supply is used in Mongolia for standard domestic and business purposes. Hotels generally provide wall sockets for two-pin plugs (Type C).

Safety and Security

  • Care should be taken in busy areas or late at night.

  • Avoid wearing flashy clothing in such situations.
